Everything you need to know about Ziro Music Festival 2026

    When and where

Ziro Music Festival 2026 runs from 24 to 27 September 2026 in Ziro Valley, Lower Subansiri district, Arunachal Pradesh. Four days of independent music, folk, rock, electronica, and indie acts from across India and Southeast Asia, on open-air stages set in paddy fields ringed by pine forest. It’s small, intentional, and unlike anything else on the Indian festival calendar.

    About Ziro Backpacker’s Yard

We run the closest campsite to the festival venue, 290 metres from the main gate. After the last act ends and you’re ready to crash, it’s a 4-minute walk back to a hot shower and a bunk. We’ve been doing this campsite every year since the festival re-opened to public bookings, and 2026 is our biggest ground yet.

    Two stay formats:

    • Mixed dorms (8–12 beds per dome), backpacker pricing, shared washrooms, hardware secure-locker per bed
    • Dome tents (2–4 person), private, weatherproof, small lockable storage inside

    All stay options include:

    • Breakfast (locally-sourced, Apatani specialties on rotation)
    • Bonfire every evening with the post-festival crowd
    • 24×7 electricity and water (concrete-built infrastructure)
    • Phone charging points and a small power-backup room
    • Concrete-floor washrooms with hot water
    • Local tour assistance for day trips during off-festival hours

    Pricing & how booking works

Rates are per person, per night, with stay length discounts (longer stays = better per-night rate, because we want you to actually experience Ziro Valley, not just the festival nights):

    • 2 Nights / 3 Days, ₹2,099 / night (festival core dates)
    • 3 Nights / 4 Days, ₹1,899 / night (arrive a day early, sleep in after closing night)
    • 4 Nights / 5 Days, ₹1,699 / night (best value, full festival plus 1–2 valley exploration days)

Festival passes themselves are sold by the festival organisers directly at zirofestival.com , they aren’t included in our stay price.

How to book: WhatsApp us with your dates, number of travellers, and dorm-vs-tent preference. We confirm within an hour during business hours. 50% advance to reserve the bed; rest on arrival.

    Getting to Ziro

Most travellers fly to Guwahati (Assam) or Lilabari (North Lakhimpur, Assam), then take a shared sumo or hire a private vehicle. Lilabari is the closest airport (about 100 km / 4 hours by road) but flight availability is sparser. Guwahati is the safer bet for connectivity (450 km / 10–12 hours, usually broken into two days).

Pickup and drop from either airport are available as an add-on, message us when you book so we can coordinate a shared vehicle if other guests are arriving the same day (works out cheaper for everyone).

    Permits

Indian citizens need an Arunachal Pradesh Inner Line Permit. Foreign nationals need a Protected Area Permit (issued through a registered tour operator only). We process both as part of the booking, see our complete Arunachal ILP guide for the full process.

    What to pack

    • Layers, daytime is mild (18–22°C), nights drop to 10–14°C. A fleece and a windbreaker cover most evenings.
    • Rain shell, late September is post-monsoon but surprise showers happen. The tents are waterproof; you may not be.
    • Sturdy shoes, the paddy fields between dorms and stage get muddy. Skip the white sneakers.
    • Headtorch, the campsite is electrified but the walk back from the late stages goes through narrow paths.
    • Cash, Ziro is rural; UPI works at the festival but a lot of village vendors are cash-only. ₹5,000 in small notes is enough.
    • Valid Aadhaar / Voter ID, needed at the ILP check post and at the festival entry gate.

    FAQ

Is the 290 m distance to the venue accurate? Yes, measured GPS distance from the campsite gate to the festival main entrance. Verified annually.

Is the festival pass included? No. Buy passes directly from zirofestival.com when sales open. Our pricing is stay only.

Can solo travellers join the dorms? Yes, the dorms are mixed and well-supervised, and we have hundreds of solo backpackers join us every year.

Is alcohol allowed at the campsite? Within reason, yes. The festival has its own alcohol policy on the grounds.

Can I extend my stay after the festival? Absolutely, book the 4N/5D rate and we’ll help plan day trips to nearby Apatani villages, Talley Valley, and Hong village.

What if the festival is cancelled? Full refund minus payment-processing fees. We don’t pocket money for events that don’t happen.

Do I need a permit to attend the festival? Yes, Indian citizens need an Arunachal Pradesh Inner Line Permit (ILP) and foreign nationals need a Protected Area Permit (PAP). We process both as part of the booking; see our Arunachal ILP guide for the full process.

    Ready to lock your spot?

Pre-festival demand for the closest campsite is heavy. The 290 m advantage is also the constraint, there’s only so much physical space. We typically sell out 4–6 weeks before the festival.
